On Friday May 4, the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion held its first spring Convocation at the Phoenix Convention Center.
The school conferred a total of 416 undergraduate and graduate degrees. The undergraduate degrees included 166 from Kinesiology, 102 from Nutrition, 88 from Exercise and Wellness, 36 from Health Sciences and seven from the Medical Laboratory Sciences program. 17 degrees were from the graduate Kinesiology, Nutrition and Exercise and Wellness programs.

Faculty and staff from the Arizona State University College of Nursing and Health Innovation will participate in the Western Institute of Nursing 45th Annual Research Conference held in Portland, Oregon, April 18-21. Members of the college faculty will present their current research findings on a number of topics including aging, health among indigenous communities, and patient simulation.

The struggle to eat healthy for many Americans has expanded as fast as our waistlines. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates about one-third (33.8 percent) of adults are considered obese, while nearly 12.5 million (17 percent) of children and adolescents aged 2-19 are obese. The dramatic increase in obesity over the past 20 years has created an urgency to educate the public on proper dietary habits coupled with regular exercise.
